Dear [name inserted], As a constituent, I am writing to urge you to fully fund public health in the state budget and to support new revenues dedicated to the Department of Public Health. Funding for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health was reduced by $30 million in two rounds of fiscal year 2009 9C cuts implemented by Governor Patrick. The Governor's House 1 proposal for fiscal year 2010 calls for an additional $40 million cut to DPH. These cuts are disproportionately high compared to other Executive Office of Health and Human Services cuts. To protect all our health, it is critical that the legislature maintain funding to the Department of Public Health. Now is the time when we should be dedicating resources to public health-- to ensure emergency preparedness, protect food and water safety, promote wellness and prevent obesity and chronic disease and provide essential services not covered by insurance, especially to the most vulnerable. Please make public health a priority and do everything possible to maintain vital public health services and prevent any further disproportionate cuts in the FY10 budget. Thank you.
