Dear MPHA Members and Partners,
The Massachusetts Public Health Association has
developed an Agenda for a Healthy
Massachusetts and an Agenda for Public Health
Leadership, that we hope will influence
policy making and appointments to key positions in the
Deval Patrick administration.
We
understand that the transition committee is moving
quickly to consider candidates for cabinet secretaries
and commissioners. If you would like to recommend
candidates, please contact the transition
committee directly through their
website.
Please send a message to the
transition committee that you agree public health should
be a major priority for the new administration.
Please refer to MPHA's Agenda for a Healthy
Massachusetts. We encourage you to disseminate the
document widely, and we welcome your
feedback.
REMINDER &
UPDATE: Don’t forget to rally at the State House
on Wednesday, December 6, 11:00 a.m., to urge the
legislature to restore Governor Romney’s 9C cuts,
including over $5 million in public health
programs. November tax receipts, released
today, were $112 million higher than a year ago, pushing
total collections five months into this fiscal year to
$284 million above the benchmark used to set the state’s
FY07 budget. We hear that the governor may use the
new figures to announce a 10 percent reduction in his 9C
cuts. It is important to have as strong a turn-out
as possible on Wednesday to win additional
restorations.
